GUEST ARTIST

On the first day of December, a garden design expert came to our school and talked to us about the design of garden, his name is Zhao Bing. He is a professor in Nanjing Forestry University. He talked to us the design of Suzhou Garden, Xuanwu Lake, Liu Park and so on.
A first, he told us about the explain of the Chinese word—"Yuan" (園). The square of the word represents an enclosing wall, and the symbol “土” of the word “Yuan” represents the construction of the land, the small square of the word “Yuan” represents a furui—people often gets the water from some furuis. The symbol likes “丫” represents plants. Then, he told us the first garden was called “Yuan”(苑) or “Pu”(圃). And he told us the garden in China means a place which use rivers and artificial hills to design beautiful living areas.
He told us the garden has many kinds in China, such as royal gardens, private gardens, temple gardens and Scenic Gardens. The Royal Garden represents imperial power or authority, and it means the supreme imperial power. The private gardens are the most famous garden in China, and the Suzhou Garden is the most of the private gardens.
He also told us the summary of the gardens and us the Suzhou Garden to make an example. The Suzhou Garden is like a City Garden, and it is a model case of some places in noisy places but when you go into the gardens, you do not feel or hear noisy you just feel you are in the forest. When you in the garden, you do not feel it is made by people, you just feel these gardens are natural. And both of the gardens have their own history and culture. The Humble Administrator’s Garden is one of the gardens which have history or culture. In the Humble Administrator’s Garden, there is a place which has a pavilion and some beautiful trees and the view looks just like a picture and the trees at there are all planted by Mr. Wen(Wen Zhengming),the famous painter in China in the past.
